How the estimate is made
Paying members is your free subscribers multiplied by the share who pay. Members on the monthly plan pay twelve times a year; members on the annual plan pay once. Card processing uses Stripe’s standard US card rate and is charged on every payment, which is why annual plans cost less in fees. Your real figures depend on churn, refunds, taxes and the cards your readers use.
What moves the number most
The share who pay matters more than the price. Readers pay when the paid edition gives them something the free one does not: a deeper issue, working files, a members’ chat, or audio. Most paid newsletters charge about $10 a month or $100 a year, and those prices have been stable for two years.
